Nantucket Dance Theater is a 501c-3 non profit officially founded by Michelle Birmingham and Richard Schafer in 2022, however they had been cultivating a dance community on island since 2013. Nantucket has an incredible arts scene but Michelle saw that the community was lacking an organization dedicated to dance education and programming. Since 2023 Nantucket Dance Theater has adpoted the Nantucket Dance Festival, started community outreach programs, hosted guest artist residencies and supported students pursuing dance at a pre-professional level.
